Located in the heart of Cooroy, the Hinterland Adventure Playground is a unique, nature-based, all-abilities destination designed to inspire both children and adults. Situated on a former timber mill site, this $6.7 million project seamlessly integrates with the natural beauty of the Cooroy Creek area, offering a diverse range of elements that encourage nature-based learning and interaction with the local environment.

The playground features a variety of play zones, from tranquil areas to highly active adventure spaces, all connected by formal and informal pathways, playful steppers, and small trails. The design also includes gathering spots for BBQs, picnic areas, and open green spaces, ensuring a welcoming environment for all visitors.

Key facilities include waterplay, inclusive flying foxes and swings, natural and rock play areas, a sand pit, a sensory garden, and an accessible amenities block with a Changing Places-accredited change room. The playground is thoughtfully designed with shaded areas, perimeter fencing, and disabled car parking bays, ensuring accessibility for everyone.

SCG Engineers provided the civil design for this project, including the pathways, car parks, and stormwater management systems. This high-quality architectural playground not only enhances the community but also connects to Cooroy’s key facilities and tourist attractions, such as the Cooroy Library and the Old Mill cultural heritage area. The project was made possible through significant investment, including $2.788 million from the Queensland Government's Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.
