Corymbia

Corymbia is a beachside weekender inspired by the nostalgia of regional coastal dwellings across Australia. It's a place designed for salty barefoot days, a multi-generational dwelling where treasured memories are created. The design ethos is centered around rest, respite, and rejuvenation, embodying a blend of functionality and joy. The structure is stripped back yet playful, natural, and native, harmoniously integrating with its environment— the dunes, the coastal heath, and the Wallum Country.

Design Highlights:

Heart of the Dwelling:
A grassed, north-facing courtyard serves as the central hub, providing a space to lounge, play, and converse.

Architectural Layout:
The dwelling features two wings separated by an outdoor breezeway space, unified under a sheltering roof.

Vehicle Subordination:
Cars are deliberately kept away from the street frontage, avoiding the visual dominance of garages.
A timber sleeper driveway and crossover, reminiscent of the sandy beach tracks of K’gari, further emphasize the prioritization of people over vehicles.

Role and Responsibilities:
SCG Engineers were appointed as the structural engineers for this project. Our team's expertise ensured the structural integrity and durability of the dwelling, seamlessly integrating with its architectural vision.
